Scholarships for Arab Students in Europe 2027/2028

Last updated: 3 July 2026

Arab students have many scholarship opportunities in Europe, but eligibility differs by nationality. A scholarship that accepts students from Iraq may not accept students from Morocco. A scholarship for Egypt may not include Yemen. A programme open to “international students” may still have different quotas, fields or deadlines by country. This is why Arab students should not only search for “fully funded scholarships in Europe.” They should search by nationality, degree level, field and deadline. For the 2027/2028 intake, the best European scholarship options for Arab students include Erasmus Mundus, Stipendium Hungaricum, DAAD scholarships, France Eiffel, Italy MAECI, Spanish AECID routes, Finland tuition waivers, Slovakia scholarships and university-specific funding.

Best European scholarships for Arab students

1. Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters

Erasmus Mundus is one of the most important scholarships for Arab students applying for a master’s degree. It is open to excellent students worldwide, including students from Arab countries. The European Commission states that Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters may offer full scholarships to the best-ranked students worldwide, covering participation costs and contributing to travel, visa and living allowance. This scholarship is especially useful because it does not usually require a country-specific nomination. Applicants apply directly to the programme consortium. It is highly competitive, but the process is transparent: choose a programme, prepare the application, submit before the programme deadline, and wait for ranking. Arab students from Iraq, Syria, Jordan, Palestine, Lebanon, Egypt, Sudan, Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria, Libya, Yemen and Gulf countries can find Erasmus programmes in engineering, climate, marine science, development, data science, health, public policy, education, law, economics, agriculture, urban studies and migration.

2. Stipendium Hungaricum

Stipendium Hungaricum is very important for Arab students because many Arab countries have appeared in the Sending Partner lists. In the 2026/2027 full-time programme list, the official call included Arab or MENA partners such as Egypt, Bahrain, Morocco, Lebanon, Palestine, Algeria, Iraq, Sudan, Yemen, Libya, Oman, Syria, Jordan, Tunisia and the United Arab Emirates, among others. The scholarship can cover tuition-free education, monthly stipend, accommodation contribution and medical insurance. For 2026/2027, the submission deadline was 15 January 2026 at 2 p.m. CET. Arab students must check two things every year:

  1. Whether their country is an eligible Sending Partner.
  2. Which fields and levels are available for their country.

This matters because some countries may have access to medicine, while others may not. Some countries may have more seats in engineering, agriculture or Hungarian language programmes.

3. DAAD scholarships in Germany

DAAD is one of the strongest options for Arab students applying to Germany. DAAD offers many scholarships, but not all are fully funded, and not all are open to every country or field. The DAAD EPOS programme is especially relevant for Arab students from developing and newly industrialised countries who have at least two years of professional experience. DAAD states that EPOS scholarships support graduates from these countries to pursue postgraduate or master’s degrees in Germany, and in exceptional cases doctoral degrees. This is a strong route for Arab applicants in development, economics, governance, public health, water, energy, environment, agriculture, engineering and public policy. Applicants should be ready to prove their work experience with official letters.

4. France Excellence Eiffel

The Eiffel Scholarship is a prestigious French scholarship for master’s and PhD students. It is not open for direct student application. The French institution must submit the application. For the 2026 campaign, the Campus France deadline for institutions was 8 January 2026, and results were announced from 30 March 2026. Eiffel can be excellent for Arab students with top academic profiles, especially in fields such as engineering, ecological transition, digital, mathematics, law, political science, economics and management. The monthly allowance for 2026 was listed as €1,200 for master’s and €2,100 for doctoral students, but tuition fees were not covered by Eiffel.

5. Italy MAECI and regional scholarships

Italy is one of the most realistic destinations for many Arab students because tuition fees can be moderate and there are multiple funding routes. MAECI scholarships are offered through the Italian government. For 2026/2027, the deadline was 26 March 2026 at 14:00 Italian time. Italy also has regional scholarships, often based on family income and assets. For Arab students, this can be useful but document-heavy. Students may need translated and legalised proof of family composition, income, property and bank assets.

6. Spain AECID and university scholarships

Spain can be relevant for Arab students through AECID scholarships and university-specific routes. AECID often has programmes for Africa and the Middle East, depending on the annual call. Spain is especially interesting for students in public policy, diplomacy, Spanish language, business, development, education and international relations. Students should also check Erasmus Mundus programmes that include Spanish universities. This may be the easiest way to study in Spain with strong funding.

7. Finland tuition waivers

Finland does not usually offer a broad fully funded government scholarship for bachelor’s and master’s students. Instead, Study in Finland advises students to check whether each programme offers scholarships, tuition fee waivers or early-bird tuition options. This can still be useful for Arab students with strong academic records, especially in technology, education, sustainability, environment and design. However, students should plan for living costs.

Best strategy for Arab students

Arab students should create a mixed scholarship plan:

The strongest applications are specific. Do not write, “I want to study in Europe because Europe has good education.” Instead, explain your academic background, your field, the exact programme, your career goal and why the scholarship matters for your country or region.
